What are the best Garden Sheds in Ireland?

Looking for the best garden sheds in Ireland? is very important to consider type of wood finish of the garden sheds - Find out what we recommend!

Best Garden Sheds in IrelandIn Ireland, lets face it, we get more than enough rain. Damp, warm weather in particular, is great for encouraging the growth and spread of insects, fungus and rot that can destroy the timber in your garden shed.

So what types of wood finish should you choose?

The type of wood used in the construction of the garden sheds depends on the type of wood preservation for the timber used to construct the shed. There are various options available in Ireland.

# 1  - Pressure Treated Timber Garden Sheds

Pressure treated garden sheds are the most practical and cost efficient choice over a longer time period. They are slightly more expensive at the outset, but they are cost effective in the long run as you do not have to pay for wood preservative treatments every year or so. They save substantially in time and effort, as they do NOT require full treatments each year, only occasional treatments over an extended time period.

The wood used in pressure treated sheds has already been treated with wood preservative. This preservative has been forced in to the wood under high pressure conditions, to push it deeper into the wood fibres than could ever be achieved by just coating the outside. As a result, garden sheds made from pressure treated wood are far more resistant to rot and decay.

# 2  - Treated Timber Garden Sheds

When you purchase a treated garden shed, this usually means the wood has been surface treated with a wood preservative. This will protect it from rotting for the first year, or maybe two. Because of the Irish weather, it is unlikely the shed will make it to the third year without showing some signs of damage.

# 3  - Untreated Timber Garden Sheds

It is sometimes possible to purchase sheds made from untreated wood. These sheds will have to be treated with high quality wood preservative as soon as it is put up in the garden, before any woodworm or rot can set in, as these can be harder to clear once they are established. They will probably require further treatment every year, so be warned!

What do we recommend?
Pressure treated sheds are our preferred choice because they are the best value sheds on the market in Ireland!
